Dear Mr. President,
I write to you in the hopes that you may be understanding enough to heed my cry for help. In this world there is great evil, evil that has committed crimes against humanity which can be traced back to the First World War. The manifestation of this evil came in the form of the Ottoman Turks who mercilessly and indiscriminately murdered one million Armenian men, women, and children. This atrocity earned itself the name “genocide”. This new word was derived from the greek words “genos” which means race, and the latin word “cide”, which means to kill. This new horrid term was created by Raphael Lenkin, a man that strove to end such malevolence. Despite his efforts, genocide occurred again and again in Germany, Cambodia, Iraq, Bosnia, Rwanda, and Darfur. Many people have suffered the loss of loved ones for what appear to me to be pointless, overwhelming violence. What fault do those people have for believing in a certain religion or being born with certain qualities? And what gives the right for someone to declare that those people are wrong and should not exist for having those aspects? All of this bloodshed that has happened over the past century is quite bothersome knowing that us humans are doing it ourselves, but what I find to be ever more shocking is that this bloodshed persists even today. Currently there is a genocide taking place in the Ukraine and in Africa which we, as humans, need to put a stop to. In past cases people have have simply stood idly by and did absolutely nothing to help those in need for they were either too cowardly or it simply wasn’t to their benefit to intervene. Now, we must act and right the wrongs of our ancestors. We mustn’t hesitate to take action and save our fellow brothers and sisters that are going through so much suffering on a daily basis. So I ask of the, no I beg of thee to help me help the world. And remember, evil only triumphs if good men allow it to. Sincerely, Willy A. C. |

Dear Humanity, What is genocide? Genocide is the killing of people based on their race and beliefs. Genocide has happened way too many times and is still happening today. Genocide should be stopped because everyone has the right to believe in what they want, no one should have the right to kill innocent people over their religion or beliefs. For example, Turks committed genocide against Armenian Christians during World War 1 because Turkish people didn’t like the Armenian Christians. One million people were killed. Also, in 1992, Serbs killed Muslims and raped Muslim women because they wanted their own orthodox Christian state. Nearly 8,000 men were killed. Genocide should also be stopped because not one group of people is superior than the other. For example, Hitler wanted the perfect Aryan race so he killed innocent Jews ,homosexuals, and the mentally ill because they didn’t fit his picture of a ‘’perfect race’’. Six million Jews were killed. Also, in 1988, Saddam Hussein committed genocide against his own people, the Kurds, because they wanted their own land. They were fighting for eight years and tens of thousands of Kurds were killed. It needs to stop. Just because it’s not happening in our country does not mean we shouldn’t step in. Hitler invaded Poland in 1939 and it took the U.S. 3 years to enter war in 1942. Why does it take us so long to react to bloody murderer? History doesn’t have to keep repeating itself. By acting together, we can compel our leaders to act on their responsibility to protect innocent men, women, and children from brutal tragedies. We must speak up and demand that government leaders make the right choices to prevent and stop genocide. If we build a large and powerful movement that will sound the alarm and shine a spotlight on those who cause genocide, it can be stopped once and for all. We are all human beings and we are all equal. It’s time we take a stand and end this horrifying nightmare we know as genocide. Sincerely, Ivonne U. |

The Unfortunate Youth
Dear humanity, With all the “important” issues going on in our country including illegal immigration, movie and music pirating, and of course the controversy on gay marriage there just doesn’t seem to be anything else we should be worrying about. Wrong, if you think that those issues are most important at this moment then you’re severely mistaken.other than global warming, nature and animal conservation, and the fact that we should be creating more jobs for people. The one thing i want to focus on right now though is Genocide. Genocide is an issue that should seem all black and white but is extremely controversial. It all started with the first case of Genocide, “ The Armenian Holocaust” in 1915, back then there was not a word for Genocide. All that was known was that Armenian-christians were being kicked out of Turkey all the while being killed in the hundreds of thousands, and nothing was done to stop them. And although that was bad it was nothing compared to Hitler who killed roughly eleven million people. Few jews were spared in his murderous “cleansing” of races deemed unfit to live. One jew that escaped “Raphael Lemkin” left to Poland before the Nazis could get to him. Having just escaped from a place of death he devoted his life to making sure nothing like the Holocaust should ever happen again. Since there was no word to describe what Hitler had done he created the word Genocide coined in 1944 from the rooted words genos (Greek for family, tribe, or race) and -cide (Latin for killing). Working his way through up through the government he finally got enough support to have a law against Genocide signed by the United Nations. It was called “Lemkins Law” and it stated that any acts of Genocide should be immediately stopped by the closest nation. And here we are today in a Genocide free world right, wrong again, even though the law was signed there have been cases of Genocide that were not stopped until it was too late. Examples being: Cambodia with the Khmer rouge, Iraq/Iran with Saddam Hussein and Chemical Ali,and Bosnia Herzegovina with the Serbs and others. And I can’t make you care about these horrible crimes that have been committed in other countries because of course “out of sight out of mind”. But I can make you think, because, you have heard of the horrible things that have happened. People of all ages babies not even age one and the elderly without being able to defend themselves, were slaughtered. And if we don’t stop it from happening before it’s too late now what will happen when the same thing happens to you. Would you cry out in anguish as others have done and wonder how anyone could let this happen. I know you would, so don’t just let this information sit at the back of your mind, spread it, let issue be know and ,maybe if we all know how bad the issue is maybe we can stop Genocide before Massive killings become Genocide. |

Dear Humanity,
Genocide is a crime that exceeds all other felonies against humankind. This is where the extermination of an entire group or population of people from a specific ethnic background takes place. This type of extreme mass murder causes innocent people paying hardships and death. For example, Adolf Hitler attempted to exterminate all Jewish descendants in 1939. As he was invading Poland and other European countries his intentions of genocide caused 9 million people to undergo tragic deaths and suffering. The problem with genocide is that it is injustice to individuals. Sadly, in Rwanda tribes such as the Tutsi's and Hutu's are being terminated because each had different views on government. The genocide had a long lasting and profound impact on Rwanda and other countries nearby. The use of war rape caused the increased diagnostics of HIV. Not enough law enforcement's in different countries have had enough effect on this issue. If foreign countries had stronger government policies mass killing rate would not be as large. The most recent genocide act has occurred in Darfur. We should not turn our backs to the screams of children who will never know their parents and to those who are left homeless. Most of the time if a country interferes it is only for personal gain. The world stood by helplessly as the Turkish government killed Armenian Christians. The world also took a pledge not to allow such a wrongdoing action to occur but nothing is changing. I believe we should stop genocide by making it public and proposing bills to enforce more laws to put an end to this matter. By doing this we can save lives, prevent poverty, and promote peace. We can end the dispute between Arab Muslims and African Muslims by taking these precautions. We live in a time where we have the power to shape the world and we can make an impact on this by taking down genocide. Sincerely, Kamille W. |

Dear Humanity, Genocide is happening all over the world and very few people are contributing their actions to prevent it. Why should genocide be prevented? Genocide is the most inhumane thing happening in the world and it's human beings against other human beings. Genocide is innocent children and adults being killed because of their beliefs and ways of living. For example, when Hitler wanted to exterminate Jews, 6 million Jews were killed and 11 million other people that were not Jews were killed. The way all the innocent people are being killed and treated is pure torture. Individuals are being killed and tortured by having their houses burned down and, getting their water poisoned, raping innocent people, getting chemicals and gases thrown at them and many other terrible methods. Overall genocide is inhumane and should be stopped because the victims are all innocent people that are being treated with cruelty and being killed in horrific ways. |

Letter to Humanity
Many people think that genocide is not occurring still today. They should rethink that and look around on what is going on around the world today. Maybe some people don't realize that genocide is still happening, because they probably think that genocide isn't such a big deal or maybe because they don't want to get involved for the same reason that it can't or won't be stopped in any way. One of the major genocide situations that has ever happened and infamous around the world is the Holocaust. This happened in 1939 throughout Europe. Everyone knows the background to this genocide and is very sad, touching, and shocking to hear the stories from the very own holocaust survivors. There isn't a lot of them here today, because everyone around the world was terrified of intervening and most of the countries were afraid of war because they had just come out of WWII. Many countries still had the chance to help out and stop that genocide, but decided not to. Genocide happens all over the world and not a lot of people think of stopping it, because of the consequences that can happen after helping innocent people. For example, when genocide was happening in Iraq in 1988 for 8 years. The U.S did not intervene until Iraq was bringing oil into it and gave the U.S no option but to come in and stop that. That just shows how the U.S wasn't really trying to intervene to stop genocide, they were so interested in saving the oil instead of helping the innocent human beings that were being mistreated and killed for just a piece of land. The most recent genocides that have happened were in 1994 and 2003. In 1994 genocide was happening in Rwanda, about 800,000 people were killed. In 2003 genocide was happening in Sudan, Africa and including Darfur. More than 300,000 African people died of diseases, starvation, and murdered obviously. Even before these genocides there was already a law that nations were required to act against genocide this was established in 1948. Although this law was established not many nations followed it. Since all these genocides have happened not many people or nations have put their attention to it now. They think something huge must happen for them to get involved, although that shouldn't happen because everything starts off with a small problem; such as the recent event the kidnapping of young women in Nigeria. These type of events can escalate to something bigger, so knowing that we can stop it before it becomes that, why not stop it when it is a small problem. We can make a change around the world if we support the fact of genocide being stopped now! |

Dear President Obama,
It has come to the attention of DPHS that you have been considering genocide in your long list of goals to resolve. Allow me to openly express how much I dislike this particular choice. Genocide is, in short, a mass murder multiplied by the number of cities that said gene/race/movement occupies. It would be similar to bombing every city that contained a church, or nuking Asia. Let me explain:
First, I will tell you about one of the first mass murderer of the 1940’s.The Holocaust. The man who committed the murder was a man called Adolf Hitler, and he attempted to destroy the Jewish race. It took quite a while for someone to take charge of the rescue operation of the jews in the concentration camps. To add, the entire world looked away from genocide from the 1940’s to present with example, the rwandan genocide to the Sudanese genocide. Even though past genocide events have been resolved, it still took a mass amount of deaths until someone listened.Even though people have been calling bloody murder. I believe there are better ways to solve genocide and the ways are just waiting for use to find them. So I ask you to listen to your people and my plea to stop this power struggle and genocide.
Sincerely,
Riley B.

Dear Humanity,
No More Genocide
A way to prevent genocide is making an alarm to let the world know you have to take action if you want to be heard. Governments need to be notified to prevent and stop these atrocities. The people need to look up to those who are in power to help intervene and save those lives that are under dictadorship by other free willing people.
In most genocides the only way they can complete the abomination is with the help from other Governments and corporations. For example, thousands of people were killed when Suddam Hussein gained power from the United Sates when he needed support against Iran. The United States then double crossed Iraq and Iran and Suddam Husseins’ cousin Ali Hassan Al Majeed (Chemical Ali) killed five thousand six hundred people by gassing them, even after they said they would surrender. Although Ali Hassan Al Majeed was eventually executed in Iran, the tragedy happened because the American governement double crossed the countries and helped support Iraq with weapons.
A problem in this world is that young kids are being brought up with the idea that discrimination is okay, to hate someone that is different skin color or even religion. The way you were raised has the most impact on you, you could either take the bad advice your parents are giving you, or you could have a good heart and your whole mindset would be different from what you were born to think. These thoughts are what start these sick minded people to think that it is ok to kill thousands of people. If we could show more people affection and not see the difference in others, but the equality we share, society would be great and so would the world.
Sincerely,
No More Genocide

Genocide Needs to be stopped !!!
(Genos means in Greek race and Cide meaning killing) Dear all the people who made genocide happen, here is my letter to you, first off how could you hurt innocent people like you are doing kill children and murder whole families and kill only the wives and girls off so it’s only the father and sons alone with no one left but each other doesn’t it make you feel bad well I guess not because this keeps happening all over the place this needs to stop we need to stand up and save all those innocent people from dying in mass graves or crematoriums or from pure loss of life. I strongly believe that genocide is pure evil and needs to be stopped as soon as possible we need to stop this from ever happening again we as humans should not kill innocent people sometimes are own families just for the sake of living, to me that’s just a sad and horrible thing how could you listen to someone so evil and cruel just to be possibly saved to live another day week maybe even month. Sometimes that’s the best outcome for some people but for me I think it’s better to save more people than just you. I think we should Wright to the government or the president, because there have been way too many genocides where we as a nation never get involved with until it’s almost too late. There were several genocides before here are some of them, first there were the Turks who wanted only a pure state and were willing to kill almost an entire race of people (Armenians) 1 million people were killed in just that first genocide alone, than there Was the holocaust with their “Leader” Hitler they exterminated only the Jews and a few other religions like gypsies in 1939 Hitler invaded Poland he and other Nazis killed over 6 million people plus this happened throughout Europe, Poland, Germany, Czechoslovakia, France, and hungry yet America only entered in 1942 Hitler wanted only an Aryan race (blue eyes blond haired people) than there was Saddam Hussein in Iraq with his cousin whom they called “chemical ale” because he used chemical weapons on the Kurds this happened in 1988 than 8 years he called a cease fire nut 5 days later he attacked the Kurds again , than there were the Hutus and Tutees who fought a war, the Hutus wanted to have no tutees so they killed them off this happened in 1993 and it happened in Rwanda Africa this whole war was fought because of clan reveries 800,000 people were killed and yet there were no Americans in sight to help them finally there was the most recent genocide in Darfur Sudan it was against the Arabs and Africans the Arabs wanted to cleanse there city and have no Africans and only Arabs they killed more than 300,000 Africans and forced over 2,000 Africans out of their homes. and we never listened to a single one we must stop this bloodshed and the blood baths and make the world a better place before its too late hopefully we can achieve that sooner than later because if we did that I and many others know that it would make the world a much safer and better place for everyone who lives in it. |
Genocide What is genocide? Genocide is the mass murder of a certain race. The word genocide was created by a man named Raphael Lemkin in 1944. Why should it be stopped? Genocide is a horrible thing and should be stopped so millions of people would not be killed, it stops leaders from doing whatever they want, and it could help the world figure out a way to stop genocide if it ever happens again. One reason to stop genocide is to save lives. If genocide did not exist, millions of people around the world not have died. They died because of their race or religion. In 1929 about six million Jews throughout Europe died from the Holocaust just because Adolf Hitler wanted an Aryan race. In many other places, people died because a leader of a certain group did not like another race or wanted them to die so they would order other people to kill them. Another reason to stop genocide is to stop leaders from doing whatever they want. Some leaders in the past caused genocide and no one did anything to stop them. So now people are causing genocide and they think no one would stop them, and its true, very few people are trying to step in and stop genocide from happening. If people don't do anything, then more and more people would cause genocide without thinking about the consequences and know that people would not step in to stop them. If genocide was stopped the world could learn how to stop genocide if it happens in the future. Many different genocides have happened in the past and world leaders did not stop them before thousands or even millions of people die. If world leaders had stepped in they could have showed how strong they were and and could scare other people so they would not try to do the same thing. If the world did something during the first genocide in 1915 in Turkey, it could have made the leaders of the other genocides stop and think about what would happen if they did the same thing. Ending genocide would solve many problems like saving lives and limiting leader’s powers. It would also help people respect another’s beliefs and race. Genocides causes hatred and fighting so ending it would be the best thing to do. |

Dear Humanity,
Genocide has been happening for decades and no one has gotten the message. This continuing problem hasn't been presented to everybody, though it should be. Most people think that genocide has stopped and isn't happening anymore, which is completely wrong. Millions of innocent people have lost there lives, and very few have stood up to try and stop it. I think as a nation we should present this problem in every school, and start coming up with methods to get people aware of this tragedy. As human beings we have no right to kill each other based on race or religion. For example, the holocaust, the Germans killing the Jews for there own beliefs that Jews shouldn't exist. Hopefully soon our world will put a stop to this once and for all.
Sincerely,
Ashley P.

Genocide. What an appalling, ghastly word with shameful and gruesome acts attached to it. The emotions encompassed within this word still petrify its victims. These horrific actions, committed by heartless beings, have continued to be a growing problem in todays’ society. But what have we done? These mass killings, that we call genocide, will continue to progress and demolish the spirits of their victims if we do not take action. No matter where it takes place, or who is involved, there is no reason to massacre thousands, if not millions, of innocent people. Racial indifference has sparked the desire to kill for decades. It started in Turkey in 1918, where the Turks attempted to rid the country of Armenian Christians. Then, the most infamous of all, the Holocaust. Taking place in Germany, Hitler and the Nazis had decided to slaughter millions of Jewish citizens. Next, this grim idea of death and suffering had settled in Cambodia, with the Khmer Rouge in the 1970's. Leader Pol Pot desperately wanted to return the country to its feudal greatness, executing the rich, the educated, and those of a different ethnicity, leaving only noble, peasant farmers. The list is endless. In 1948, Genocide Convention became law, requiring countries to intervene and act against these chilling crimes. Then why haven't we? Is saving money really a reason not to save millions of lives? It's not. There are plenty of things we can do to prevent and stop genocide completely, we just need one brave and courageous soul to reach out and attempt to.
Sincerely,
Kyle O.
